Some time back Virgin Digital had launched a campaign "Exercise Your Music Muscle"
The contest ended on 31st Dec 2005.

Basically its an illustration with 74 band names hidden somewhere in it. Some examples are a guy with a sledgehammer smashing pumpkins, or 20 matchboxes on the ground (matchbox 20The official game over at Heavy.com also has a little digital magnifying glass tool to help you out.

LJ blogger shruthi-dipali blogged about it, But ive got the image with the answers :-)
I found the concept rather neat, one brilliant campaign !

This is by far one of the best ive seen !
Thats Dimebag, lead guitarist of my all time favorite band Pantera ( kick ass!)
Great background of their popular song "Cemetary Gates" and of course symbolic to the sad demise of Dimebag Diamond Darell Abbott in Dec 2004.
Its my wallpaper now .
Sadly Pantera split into Damageplan and Superjoint Ritual Damageplan were formed in 2003 by guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and drummer brother Vinnie Paul .
Lead singer Philip Anselmo formed Superjoint Ritual and side project Down.

Last Weekend @ Beijing

The last weekend (14th,15th Jan) in Beijing was the besssssssst

Went shopping with "Harvey" and "Maggi"
Maggi works in PR for Intel, i have never seen an awesome bargainer like her ever !
Thankfully her english was good since she had worked for 2 years in Singapore, i could finally have a decent conversation in English!
She saved me sooooo much money :-)

First stop was Zhong Guan Cun (often "Zhongguancun") known as the Silicon Valley of China.
Our office is close to this place.
Shopped for some electronics here , it has huge elecronic malls .

Next we headed straight to the Xiu Shui Market also popularly known as the "Silk Street"

Its a tourist paradise,very good quality "export" goods here .
Shopped and bargained like crazy!

After having spicy ( hottttt) dinner at a Sichuan Chinese Restaurant (Sichuan is China's spiciest province :-) ), I decided to treat "Harvey" and "Maggi" at the Hard Rock Cafe especially since she was such a sweetheart and had saved me a lot of moolah :-d and also because both of them were rockers !

So we headed to the Hard Rock Cafe .
It was a relief to see 90% foreigners in the Hard Rock Cafe .:-)
I immediately liked the place ...the ambience ... got a hard rock tee from the Rock Shop there.
Some Filipino band was playin there ... all english songs but the music was kinda poppish for my taste ... but since i was seated just next to the stage ,i was concentrating on the guitarist :-d

It was fun :-)

On Sunday "Jane" took me out to the Tiananmen Square
The square is 880 metres south to north and 500 metres east to west, making it the largest open-urban square in the world.
It is very symbolic for China , known for the Tiananmen Square Massacre
Student protestors claim that over 7,000 were killed during that protests in 1989 .

Thats me at the square , behind me is the Great Hall of the People, seen on Chinese currency ,Renminbi notes.

We also visited the Forbidden City, close to the square.

Went to the local market , the chinese eat scorpions and sea horses too , they claim it makes a man stronger :-P

and those were alive!

Authentic local chinese food is totally different from the chinese food we eat in India ... even restuarants like MainLand China who claim to serve the real stuff dont come close ...
cant blame them for indianising a wonderful cuisine!

I frequently eat dinner at a Cantonese Chinese restaurant called "Fishland China" close to my hotel.

Among all Chinese cuisine,Cantonese food has traditionally been considered the best. Canton is the capital of Guangtong Province, just north of Hong Kong.
Cantonese is the dialect of Chinese spoken in Canton and neighboring provinces and in Hong Kong and elsewhere outside China
Canton is now called Guangzhou.

I just love the Cantonese cuisine , its spicy :-)
Has all the qualities of good food ... looks good ,smells good ,tastes good .

I thought saturday was the best , but sunday was better :-d

At 8.30 in the morning "Miles" picked me up from the hotel to go to the Great Wall Of China.
It was freezing up there .

The Chinese have a saying "bú dào Chángchéng f¨¥i h¨£o h¨¤n"
roughly meaning "You're not a real man if you haven't climbed the Great Wall"

I am and I'm certified :-d

The view on the other side of the wall was beautiful

I also visited the Mings Tombs nearby.

At night the some colleagues took us out for some "relaxation".
Little did i know that we were going to a massage place :-d

Some place called "Tong Li " a 6 storey building, supposedly THE place in Beijing and expensive.
Its got jacuzzi,sauna,all kinds of massages, a pub , KTV ( karoke bar),a pub , restaurants, swimming pool , and ahem "other services"

Inside we were led to these lockers for guys where i was told to take off my clothes ! lol
I looked around and i saw nude ppl walking around .... i have never been to such open jacuzzi's before :-d

Maybe the eragataur ( local chinese alcohol ) i had earlier made me shed any inhibitions I had lol
That alcohol had 60% content ...unbelievably strong !

Its difficult to make conversation with naked people and they actually starting talking business in the jacuzzi lol
What a major turn off !
Then we were given some gowns and led to a Buffet .

After dinner was massage time :-d
It was crazier ... foot massage, leg massage , back massage by 3 girls lol
My colleague translated to me "the girls find you handsome ,you indian ,you have big eyes"
wow... at least someone thought i was handsome,even if it was business as usual for them ! lol
strange but even the taxi driver who took us to the great wall said the same thing ..hmmm interesting.

After 2 hours or so my colleague translated "She is asking if you need any other services"
lol i know what that meant ..its common in Bejing i heard .
Anyways i just said " i want to go back and sleep alone " lol

Jokes apart , the massage really relaxed me:-)
But i so want to forget the jacuzzi scene ..its still haunting me,never seen so many dicks in my life ... literally

Beijing update !

Today i spent one of my best days here till now.
Had to go to office today (a saturday! ) for some urgent and was bored coz i wanted to do some shopping on the weekend.
But im glad i went because i got introduced to a developer there called "Harvey" who is a guitarist !

Its true they say ...Music has no barriers ..we bonded instantly :-)

Though he could'nt understand most of my english and vice versa but we still understood.
He asked : you listen "Steve Vai"
I said : ya ! you "Joe Satriani " ( my grammar has gone for a toss here lol)
Well after that we just talked and talked about music ... Chinese ,Indian,Metal,Rock ,Blues, guitars, drums ,instruments ...

Then i made him listen to "Bhaynak Maut" :-d he totally freaked out !
He just said "Very Heavy" lol
He just loved Indian Ocean and Alms for Shanti.

So we decided to go shopping together for some music and a distortion pedal for myself!
He took me to this amazing guitar shop in a basement downtown ...ive never seen so many guitars and instruments in one place!

Then we went to this music store and i got music video DVD's ,well since it was so bloody cheap .. 7 yuan for each i.e just @ 40 INR !!!
I got 20 :-d

Had a early chinese dinner at 5.30 pm !
Hey i can eat with chopsticks too,most restuarants out there dont have forks :-d

Tomorrow another office colleague " Miles " is taking me to the Great Wall .yaay!!

p.s: i just love dumplings , chinese have em for breakfast ...lucky guys!

After a rockin New Years celebrated in Mahableshwar with friends, Im in Beijing (China) now.

Reason?

Worksoft wins TIBCO China Development Center contract

I immediately liked the place the moment i landed.
Its just like Bombay , the crowd ... the buzz but its better much much better in everyway.

Just back from a total chinese dinner with 2 VP's of Worksoft ,eating unmentionable items :-) ,heck its China and I want to try out everything !.
The vice president did ask me if i was anyway related to PETA before ordering dinner lol

Had a hilarious time in a chinese shop where i went to buy a calling card , since they did not understand english i tried my best using sign language ... finally the girl got me a face cream :-d

Im put up in the Tian Hong Plaza Hotel
Its nice with nicer broadband in every room.

It snowed a little when i was coming back from dinner ... lil snow flakes that just melt on your skin , loved it !
I waited outside the hotel for 10 mins till i went numb in all the possible places :-).

I hope to see more snow ,finally a wish will be partially complete, i wanted to see snow with someone special ... i dont mind it alone now :-)

The first day was fun .. i suspect im going to have a ball for the 2 weeks Im here :-)

The Great Wall Of China is just a 2 hour drive from here !

The paraglider that never took off

Blame it on nature ... the long drive uphill to Malwadi a good 15 kms from Hadapsar did not pay off .

Had gone today with VC,VAM and Eric Menzes and his team from ParaGlidingIndia

Reached the take off spot around 4 pm , thats uphill around 1000 ft high

A hour long wait for the wind to blow .... sadly it never blew enough to take the paraglider up ... moreover it was cloudy.

The team just practised on the ground :-)

Now im more than determined to go paragliding , maybe in some weeks.

Marshall MG10CD Guitar Amp Rocks!

Got a new Marshall MG 10CD amp!

Makes quite a noise for the small size

Was fiddling around with the gain and tone controls , pretty decent in built distortion i must say
Sound checked some songs:

1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath -Black Sabbath ( Sounded good)
2. Shine- Collective Soul ( okish sound ..still working on getting that bluesy rock effect out of the amp.
3. Master of Puppets - Metallica ( not even close lol .. need a pedal to get the real crunchy effect )
4. Everybody Hurts- REM ( sounds good .. actually the amp really sounds nice clean , although you doesnt give you much control over the tone, can try with the guitar knobs).
5. Cowboys from Hell -Pantera ( nah no way lol)

I have to get a better electric guitar soon ... fender ,jackon, ibanez ,gibson ??

I also got a 300 GB external USB hdd :-d
And a Nokia 6630 , the snap above is taken on it, not bad eh.

My hands are itching to go home and plug my gat :-)

A Belated Birthday Gift ...

My friends gifted me a brand new Samung fridge :-D as a bday gift !

Thanks to my friends Aks ( a bollywood stud), VAM (a hollywood stud) and 2 heroines VC (a Lisa Loeb lookalike) and lovely Risha :-)

Just came today morning at 10 am , ive already stocked it up :-)

1. couple of beers
2.wine
3. cheese
4.eggs
5.jam
6.mayo
7.butter
8.salami
9.sausages
10.ice cream sundae
11 ice
12 water

Have i missed anything lol

Seems like my place has become an ideal bachelor's pad .

This is why:

VC and Risha gave me a peg measure on my birthday
From all the other gifts i could get by scratching the samsung scratch card i won a "Parka Glass Set"
Now you know where this is heading lol
Alcohol all stocked up.
Infinite music for all moods and tastes ( yes i got bhangra and trance too lol).
good amount of movies ( ye the other kind too ).
Lovely neighbours who never complain the loud music blaring from my house. Now i think they like the fact that i wake them up every morning with Kandisa - Indian Ocean.

What else does a lonely bachelor need ??

Anyways im pretty happy with the fridge :-)

Independence Rock XX rocked!

There i was ... at Chitrakut Grounds (opposite Fun Republic), which will be remembered as the last venue that hosted I-ROCK. since it was supposedly the last show of I-Rock (which i doubt ..Farhad is made out of stronger stuff) and enjoyed everybit of it.
I liked the fact that it was only 10 mins away from home :-).

The only thing i regret is that i could not go on the 1st day of I rock :-(
and as a consequence missed Bhayanak Maut ( i so wanted to hear their original Invitation to Bleed Live)
My friends told me that BM played an awesome set and should have won, but sadly it went to Vertigo from Pune...hmmmm no comments.

I managed to make it at @ 8 pm on the 2nd day.

While i was near Fun Republic i could hear Sceptre play "Nothing Else Matters -Metallica"
When i was inside Sceptre was churning out some Slayer.
There was their frontman Timir looking like Dave Mustaine .They also played their popular original "Nuclear".
Sceptre does have a huge fan following in Mumbai ,so does Pin Drop Violence

The show must have started at @ 7 pm ,since i already missed

Pin Drop Violence (PDV )

Originally Myndsnare and Agni were supposed to play but never did.

Anyways after that came Farhad Wadia for the "Dinosaurs of Rock" jam .. all veteran musicians who had played in the past 20 years of I Rock.( I have been religiously going to I Rock for the past 10 or more years ... i treat it like an Indian WoodStock lol)

Suraj ex ChakraView and AFS vox played first. He covered Highway Star (Deep Purple) and Hard To Handle (Black Crowes).
My death metal friend with me had lost his voice screaming "SLAYER .. I want SLAYER" ..15 times lol

The second one to perform was Joji George ,elder bro of a proud sis called Deelight :-D ,He used to sing for SHORT CIRCUIT 15 years back ! whoa long time !
He did have good vox and he covered Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd) and It's My Life (Bon Jovi).The music on these were awesome and top notch throughout the show.

Next was Brian Tellis and he sang some song i had never heard of Doobie Brothers.
By this time my friend was screaming all the possible death metal bands he could think of "Entombed .... My Dying Bride ...Deicide ... Please Please play Slayer " lol

Nandu Bhende came in next , a clear dissapointment for me , He sang Behind Blue Eyes (The Who).

There was this real cute chick in front of me ..short with a huge lop of permed hair :-) ... i envied her bf standing next to her damn! some guys have all the luck !
Anyways back to the music...

Then came Pervez Quadir , "The man with a million dollar voice" as introduced by Farhad.
And he did give the best rendition that evening ,covered Rock and Roll (Led Zeppelin) and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (U2) , very well done indeed!
He got the crowds lighters up and arms swaying.

Shazneen (Zero) was next ,she sang I Alone (Live), and Whole Lotta Love (Led Zeppelin) ... she did Whole Lotta Love well which started the moshpit again.It was mostly her stage presence and attitude which got the people moshing ... not that Led Zep songs are anything to mosh on.

Koko from Agni took the stage ... i could barely recognize him! He's changed ... sobered down i believe.
Ryan Mendonca who was on Keyboards sang the next song , some song from Santana , Koko played the solos really well on that.

Farahad Wadia took frontstage and dedicated the first song for his wife Sweet Child Of Mine (GnR) ... did a medley of Knockin' On Heaven's Door (GnR) and Paradise City (GnR)
He does sing well i have to admit.!

The last one for the night was Gary Lawyer.
Another Doors overdose ...We muttered to ourself.lol
He always plays all Doors at all concerts ,yes he does have a good voice ... a baritone one ... like Jim Morrison , But cant sing the same set forever man!
Recently he has started singing My Sacrifice (Creed).
The songs he played were
Roadhouse Blues (The Doors).
My Sacrifice (Creed).
LA Woman (The Doors).
Break On Through (The Doors).
Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple).

Nothing much to write about Gary ..same stuff over the years .. i wished he sang his original " You set my nights on fire " ... it had a video too i remember. :-) But he never does.

Farhad came back on stage ... Farhad was gifted a guitar from Furtado's Music ( it was an orangish Jackson i guess)

Farhad and Gary sang Mustang Sally as we made our way out .. i could see some police movement ..it was 10 pm ...we went to get some more Vodka.
Life is good ...ate ,drank and slept in peace.

After looking into some blogging clients , I found this one pretty slick for Blogger.

Quite similiar to the one i use for LiveJournal called Semagic

Unlike Semagic w.bloggar however supports most blogging sites including LJ and have loads of more features than any other i have seen :-)

I like such clients mostly because they allow me to blog offline and later publish.
It also supports publishing to many blogs at once.

Other features incude templates, rich editing , scripting , file uploading , spell checks,html preview etc .
And many other fancy options i have not explored as yet.

This one is highly recommended to anyone blogging frequently or anyone who hates to type the username/password everytime!

Im uninstalling Semagic now :-)

This is a extra file left from a program that badgehelp produces. I myself found this on my pc. Programs you download from badgehelp and run leave extra files on you desktop even change your registry settings to some extent.Oscar happens to be the creator/owner of this site. All programs associated and used on that site will most likely have those notepad files with his name on them.Its not a virus dont worry.Just a simple note pad file stating Oscar was here.

Creation date : 23rd Sep 05 , 5:33 pm

Inside the file was written "Oscar Was Here"

now where did that come from ...

Slept last night at 3 am...Got up at 6 am went for a walk .. went to office at 8.30 am
A release coming up this month.
Left for french classes at 6 pm.
Its gets over at 9.30 pm .. these french classes are killin me !
Came back home after dinner ..and and am now working again at home.

The next 2 months are goin to be the same :-(
